Frequently asked questions

Is Kruti Dev the same as the Remington layout?
Kruti Dev is a font. Remington is the keyboard layout it follows. Typing in Kruti Dev 010 means typing on the Remington layout - the same key positions the old Hindi typewriters used - which is why exams call the test "Remington" or "Kruti Dev" interchangeably.
Why do some keys show a dash?
Those keys type nothing in Kruti Dev 010, so the chart leaves them empty rather than printing a guess. Everything else is read straight from the character map the converter uses.
Can I print it in black and white?
Yes. The chart uses no colour to carry meaning: the home row is marked with shading and a heavy border, which prints clearly on any office printer.

Beginners learning Hindi typing from scratch, and anyone preparing for a typing test in SSC, CPCT, court or state recruitment exams that use the Remington (Kruti Dev) layout. How to use it

Learn the home row first - the shaded keys - and keep your fingers resting there. Look at the chart, not at your hands. Letters with no key of their own, like भ or श, are typed as two keys. The matra and conjunct chart lists those sequences.
